Wednesday Sub for the Sub

Well, least this one seems to be more friendly than Monday’s little Tyrant.

What I think, is that we [the people] have forgotten, is that Health Care is NOT a business, but is a profession for those who are in need of help. We have bought into the Conservative Game Plan, that everything is about PROFITS.

Problem with that, is that some areas simply cannot be run simply for a profit. Health & Education are two major expenses for any Democracy, but they, themselves cannot be expected to be run at a Profit.  It doesn’t mean they don’t contribute to the overall economy, because they do, but not like selling hockey helmets or cars does.

Banks gain profits from interest charged on loans, and business makes money on the goods it sell, but Health Care makes those things all happen. With a society that is healthy, that is cared for, it allows people to perform at their best, stress free and illness free.  So IF Health care, such as hospitals, doctors, etc. are run at a loss, the return from other sectors more than makes up for it.

What was interesting to note, is that the substitute for the substitute didn’t have good command of English, and in the past, that’s been a problem. Not with this worker today, because the ‘ATTITUDE‘ was a positive one.

AND really, that is as important, as in knowing what to do. When you show up, and have a lame attitude, or a ‘it is just a job’ attitude, it is felt by your Patients, and only adds to their stress.

Part of any training, has to include a discussion on attitude, but first you need to get the basics down. Communicating with the Patient is essential, and even if there is a language barrier, it can be done. Today’s worker proved that.
