Sure you can arrange for respite care, but that is for those who can turn their minds off, and hope that those looking after your loved one is competent.  I can’t do that, I guess because I am a worrier, but also because I have seen how Beacon Community Services works.  They simply do not have enough qualified personnel, to do the job. So it means I stand guard every day, without any real break. Sure, I get one…

Caring for an elderly parent isn't just an emotion drain, but is a financial one as well. Despite having socialized health care, we are ignoring those who need it the most. We refuse to accept that not everyone has a lot of disposable income, to spend on things like food, over the counter drugs, added heating costs. We put everything into a formula, but we ignore the human factor.

It doesn't take Rocket Science, and yet given how so many Beacon Community Service workers are incapable of managing it, perhaps it is Rocket Science. There is no doubt in my mind, that the quality of training is at best, sketchy and spotty. It is a danger to the elderly, and yet VIHA seems unconcerned, or unwilling to monitor the training of people being sent to care for our Mothers, Fathers. How many accidents, how many deaths will it take, before Beacon has its contract terminated, and a properly trained work force will be put into place, to help our aged?

Personnel are improperly trained, for the most part. A total lack of common sense exists in most workers, who are provided with out dated information on their duties. Yet VIHA refuses to keep any check and balance over this company, that receives millions in taxpayer money to perform its duties. What is worse, is that the care being provided, borders on criminal abuse of the patients in their care. This is negligence, at best.

Yet today that is the catchword for business. To hell with the people, as long as they get paid, and make their profit margins. Beacon Community Services not only fails in its ability to provide competent help to the Elderly, but it fails in having one single ounce of compassion for those intrusted into their care. It is about money, not about serving people's needs. And it is a careless government that continues to pay these heartless greed merchants, instead of protecting the people who they are supposedly elected to serve. Shame on them both, Beacon and Christy Clark.
