Sure you can arrange for respite care, but that is for those who can turn their minds off, and hope that those looking after your loved one is competent.  I can&#8217;t do that, I guess because I am a worrier, but also because I have seen how Beacon Community Services works.  They simply do not have enough qualified personnel, to do the job. So it means I stand guard every day, without any real break. Give support to those in the home, not to add to their stress, their worry.  VIHA simply doesn't care to check that Beacon does as their contract requires. Some maybe, but many simply retreat into a shell. Yet consistently, substitute workers seem incapable of basic caring skills. There is no 'call in sick' option for those of us who are 24/7 care givers. I feel sick, but I can't go back to bed, leave her alone. I have to be on the job. Calling in a relief worker won't do, because their qualifications are suspect, which means the relief would be non existent.
