To spend a lifetime so that when it all is ending, you are as alone as when you were first born. Your mind is weak, your body even weaker, and for what? When you see someone dying slowly, in pain, you have to wonder, what is the whole point of it all? Then too, you have to wonder, how can so many be so callous about it all.

They are people, entitled to proper care and respect. You don't send people who can't communicate clearly with them, or who rush them because of some time constraint. You need people who care, who are trained and most importantly, have some common sense. Caregiving is about compassion, not about speed. Home Support is about helping, not hindering, not putting people at risk. They may be 94, but they are still human beings, who deserve our compassion, our respect, our very best. They are NOT disposable junk.

This is a job, that doesn't end at 5pm but goes on 24 hours a day. Even when you get an hour break, it doesn't end, because you are just catching your breath. This is a job that ends, when the patient dies, and even then, maybe it doesn't end.

They grate on your mind, as you try to ignore them but can't. The whimpering, the constant little moans, gets to a person. Yet you are stuck in keeping quiet. Just another no win situation one has to cope with, when caring for an elderly parent.
