The Moron Brigade Struck Again

  • Posted on September 29, 2011 at 8:25 am

The Time Colonist had a feature story yesterday, front page news actually, about how reading was in the hands of the children.  Obviously today’s ADULTS, least those who work at Beacon Community Services, aren’t capable of reading, otherwise they would have noted, that when they CHANGE OUR SCHEDULE, they are SUPPOSED TO CALL US!

Once again, they have altered the schedule, no notice, and like it wasn’t bad enough to pull that crap on Tuesday, now just a day later, and here we go again.

I don’t give a shit what the reason is, the reality is that I spend a horrific day yesterday because Mom’s routine has been shattered. Her nervousness manifests itself in tremors, in shakes, in downright nastiness even. She starts to think about things in her past, that aren’t pleasant, are painful to discuss and just think about.

And that is how yesterday went, all because of the combination of sending an incapable worker on Sunday, then compounding the disaster with  a substitute on Tuesday, without any notice.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!

Thank you very much Beacon Community Services.  Your drive to KILL MY MOTHER is working, you are slowly and painfully robbing her of her sanity, of her strength. You are tormenting her, by making her feel confused and uncertain.  Non Profit my ass,  how much of a kick back you getting from the funeral parlors?  Or have you not thought of that yet Ms. McKenzie?

VIHA, you are as usual, incapable of administering to the needs of the citizens of this province. Premier Christy Clark you should be turfed out of office come the next election, to join Tipsy Gordon at the local watering hole, where you can whine about how unfair it is of the people to not support your blatant disregard for our needs.

Home support, from Beacon Community Services is a total and complete JOKE!

Warning to those who are in their thirties, forties, fifties, don’t expect to rely on your Government for support in your old age. Put as much money as you can, starve yourself now, if need be, in order to insure that when your time comes to rely on home support, you can be like Ms. McKenzie and Premier Campbell, Christie Clarke, Stephen Harper, and PAY FOR IT ON YOUR OWN.

What Is There To Be Thankful For

  • Posted on October 10, 2010 at 9:55 am

It is the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, and ya know, I wonder.  Just what is there to be thankful for?

I have a cold/flu for the last 2 weeks, every bone in my body aches, but I still have to get up at 7am and can’t head down to unwind until 10:30pm.

Dinner still has to be done, and the battle to make sure a 93 year old eats enough, is constant.

You may be sick, but you still have to be vigilant, to make sure that a 93 yr old takes all of her pills, not just the one’s she thinks she should. (Thanks to the buttinsky of a home support worker).

A wife who shows up and then disappears for most of the night, because he just can’t cope with the old person syndrome.  You know, the smells, the peculiarities, that old people seem to develop.

So what is there to be thankful for?

A routine that only changes when the health issues worsen?

A certainty that nothing you do, is going to prevent the final solution, the death of someone you love deeply.

A constant battle with Home Support Agencies that send workers who are, at best, there for the $20 an hour wage, not about making a difference in the lives of the people they come to help.  A so called ‘non profit’ agency that is really about only making money. A government whose sole purpose is to line their pockets, not serve the people who elect them.

Really, what is there to be thankful for?

For Life

Yeah, life sucks, I feel like shit, but bottom line is, I have a wife, who in his own way cares, and surprises me with his affection at times.  A mother who may be 93, but who is still able to recognize me, and talk to me.

The ability to actually hold back the dark forces of greed, indifference, by being here for Mom, is something to be thankful for. It’s not easy, and yeah, when you are sick you still have to fight through it and do your job, because no one else will do it for you. And that does make you stronger, for when you are going to have to face your own demons, devils, called BEING ELDERLY.

Not much to be thankful for, or maybe a hell of a lot. I don’t know which it is, at times, but when it comes down to it, it is the life I have, and at least I am alive to experience it. I guess that too, is something to be thankful for.  The memories that can flood in, at just the right moment, that do, make this all worthwhile.

So Happy Thanksgiving, may it be one of many to come.

Clueless Or Just Uncaring?

  • Posted on May 16, 2010 at 10:46 am

This has been an eye opening weekend, sort of.  I mean it seems to just confirm to me, that people are either so clueless, that it borders on stupid, or that it is they simply don’t give a shit about their job.

There used to be a time, when no matter what your job was, you took pride in it. You may not have liked the pay scale, but you still showed up everyday, did the work assigned, and did it to the best of your ability.

SURE ISN’T THAT WAY TODAY!

Companies have gone from producing quality goods, to producing crap that is designed to break down, to become worthless in short order. All in the name of  profits, so people have to buy more of the same goods.  From houses to cars, to coffee makers to pretty much everything. Hell even our food isn’t safe to eat, but that’s okay, because the companies profit margin is on the upswing.

Blind to the Truth

Today’s Non Profit organizations are about shearing people, and frankly, I doubt very much if there is such a thing as NON PROFIT.  Like Beacon Community Services, that has from a single operation, become the controlling agency on Vancouver Island, in health care and other so called, support services.

There is no doubt, the people in Charge, from Upper Management to Lower Management, simply do not care about those in their care. They don’t care about anything, but covering their own asses, and in making the company PROFITABLE.    They can claim to be NON PROFITbut come on, I didn’t fall off a turnip truck this morning.  THEY MAKE MONEY, and what is worse, is THEY MAKE OFF THE BACKS OF TAXPAYERS & THE INFIRMED.

The Government Agency responsible for overseeing them, SIMPLY DO NOT CARE.  And those who are in charge of insuring our money is properly spent, ARE TOO BUSY LINING THEIR OWN POCKETS.

But in all fairness, the real cause for all this, IS US, THE PEOPLE

We allow this type of Government, this type of Corporate RIP OFF, because we don’t care to do our job properly. We are too consumed with GREED, and no matter what the wage is, the compensation, IT IS NEVER ENOUGH FOR US.

I guess I am just past it. My time is at an end because the values, the ethics my 93 year old mother taught me, no longer exist, or apply in our world today. Oh there are some, a dwindling few, who try, but the majority, simply do not care anymore.

When I left a Job, or finish a project, I like to believe that I did the best I could. It may not be perfect, may not even be correct, but at least I gave it my best shot.   NOT HOME SUPPORT WORKERS TODAY.   Today it is about the clock, about moving on and so what if the routine for a 93 year old is disrupted. Not like they count anyhow, because well, they will be dead soon.  Why care, right?

It makes no difference to companies like Beacon Community Service, to VIHA or MLA’s like Ida Chong or for that matter, political leaders like Carol James, that people suffer, because of their actions, or in most cases… INACTION.  All that matters is that they have their asses covered.  Like providing a schedule for family members to check on who is coming, and when, but then changing it without notice, so that they can always say, “well it is on your schedule” .

Funny how that works. You can check the schedule at 9am, to find out why the worker hasn’t shown up, or who it is, and then at 9:30am someone new shows up, and when you go check the schedule, HEY IT SHOWS THE CHANGES.

FUNNY HOW THEY COULDN’T PHONE TO LET YOU KNOW.

Then you have to love how they can decide, the night before, to change the time for a worker to come visit, can make the changes in the schedule, but CANNOT PHONE YOU TO LET YOU KNOW.   So a worker, scheduled for 9am, suddenly is ringing your doorbell at 8am.

Or when they do call, and tell you NO ONE CAN ATTEND UNTIL 10am, AT THE EARLIEST, but that they will call you back, to let you know, and at 9:30am someone is ringing your doorbell, and no, they didn’t call you back either.

Of course, you have taken them at their word, gotten your 93 year old mother up, and eating her breakfast, because no one is coming before 10am.  You know she needs to eat on a scheduled time, to take her pills at the same time, so you have time.

It is almost as if, they want to screw you up. So what if suddenly a leisurely breakfast is rushed? After all, they have a schedule to keep, and even though they don’t MAKE ANY MONEY, they gotta keep to that schedule.   YEAH, RIGHT!.

Seems they don’t care, that an older person can’t rush eating, because their ability to swallow is not as good, as you or I.  But hey, so what if they gag, choke a bit, not like THEY have to deal with it.

I used to think that it was simply that Beacon hired idiots, or rookies who didn’t have a clue, and that VIHA was simply too over burdened, to take charge of those under it’s care. MAN WAS I THE STUPID ONE!

See, it really isn’t that Beacon hires idiots, they go out and look for the least expensive help they can find, qualified or not. VIHA knows it, because after all, they are the one’s who hand out the contract.  They have to know, from first hand, that you can’t charge $37 an hour, and find qualified staff for $22 an hour. After all, ISN’T THAT WHY THEY OUTSOURCED IT, TO BEGIN WITH?

Naturally the difference between paying $22 for labor, and receiving $37, is to cover administration. After all, IT IS NON PROFIT!

staying at home

Why Vote? Easier to Rock

AND

we allow it to go on. Seriously, we do, for a few reasons. One of course, that tops the list, is we are simply too self absorbed to care. We are just LAZY because at the moment, it isn’t US needing that care.  Then too, there is the WILLINGNESS to buy into the bullshit that our so-called leaders tell us, like Stephen Harper, Carol James, Gordon Campbell, and hey, if we don’t like them, WE STAY AT HOME COME ELECTION DAY.  [ Like that really sends them a message of dissatisfaction, doesn't it? ]

I never was one for Euthanasia, the right to decide when one should die. I know I could never do that, for Mom, but lately, I think for myself, I’d rather end it, long before I get to be Mom’s age.  I just don’t see anyone being able to give me any decent care, if I was to need it. It isn’t going to get better, until WE start demanding it, and frankly, I DOUBT IF ANYONE REALLY DOES CARE ANYMORE.

Sophie

There are some who should not be home support workers. There are others like Wanda, Arlene, Tracy, & Yvette who should be.  Sophie doesn’t fall into that category.

What is it with some women, who try to confuse an older person, by insisting they have been here before, that we didn’t have a dog then.  Kind of odd, considering we’ve had our dog for 4 plus years now, and when we got Molly, we didn’t have Beacon Community Service workers.

When you are assigned to a new place, or one you may have been at awhile ago, it would make sense to check the care plan.  Course that would also mean that the office would have to insure it was up to date, something Beacon is GROSSLY INCAPABLE OF DOING.  Our care plan still shows Mom with a broken wrist.

It simply makes sense, to insure that health care plans, are up to date. Makes you wonder, at how a supposed ACCREDITED BUSINESS can have so many complaints, be so incapable of performing its contractual obligations, that it has any ACCREDIDATION

Obviously it is about MONEY. To send women who can’t communicate with their patients, such as the one we had Sunday, or the one today, who harps on how her country was good to Jews, who keeps trying to confuse Mom by saying she was here before, that there was no dog, that Mom should have a shower, that I am too big, is not going to help.

Nor is telling her that her foot should be hurting, because the toes are a bit too close together. Like let’s get her worried about something new, which happens with older people. They fixate on things that mean nothing.

Frankly, they can claim they are NON PROFIT all they want, but you can’t run on a deficit, and there is no doubt, that this contract with VIHA is a lucrative one. After all, they aren’t sending properly trained workers, but one’s who they train in house, if one is lucky. Hell, how can you train anyone, if they can’t fully communicate in English?

The money they get is obviously being used for their other projects, or through some other method, because there is NO WAY IN HELL they are putting all the money they get, back into hiring proper staff, into training, or anything else, that remotedly comes close to benefiting the Patients under their care.

WITHOUT proper checks, from VIHA, these contracted companies can & DO what they please. They use whatever workers they want, without fear of being called to account for it. As much as I object to Beacon Community Services, and how they conduct business, IT IS VIHA THAT IS TO BLAME.

The reality is simple. GOVERNMENT IS FAILING THE PEOPLE WHO THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO SERVE.  It makes no difference who is in charge anymore. Whether it is the Pit Bull Carol James or the Laid Back Gordon Cambpell, their only goal is to hold onto power, anyway they can.  It is not about doing what is right, nor is it about caring for the needs of the more vulnerable in our society, it is about protecting the profits, for their special interest groups.

For Campbell, it is the Real Estate groups, while for Carol James it is for the elite Unions, like the Teachers, Nurses union.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO SERVING THE PEOPLE?
