Perhaps I am getting too old, or maybe I was just raised weird. Yet to me, an old person is deserving of some respect, some dignity. Instead we rob them of that, force them to bear burdens they shouldn't have to, like dealing with being rushed to just go to the bathroom. It just seems, so unfair, to provide them with sub standard home care, while we pay the head of Government health care services hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. It just doesn't seem right that we hire private companies, whose only goal is to make money over providing qualified personnel.

Then you might find out before the substitute shows up. Course the worker isn't told until the last minute either, but hey, who cares, they are just employees. More important that the CEO of Beacon Community Services is guaranteed her quarter of a million dollar salary, than proper employees are hired, and trained for their job. Besides, old people are about to expire, so what's the big deal, right?

Should I cancel the home support call for Sunday, or allow it, knowing that Mom will be stressed, that her infections will likely worsen as a result of the inability of the substitute worker to properly wash & dry her groin? Do I add to the stress for Mom, by cancelling, or do we tough it out, and hope that Sunday's worker will have learned from last week? Damned either way, it seems, but I have to do what is best for Mom. A lady of 94 deserves at least that, doesn't she? Does being old suddenly disqualify you from having proper help, when needed?

Unfortunately we no longer do that, thanks to the shift to the Conservatives, like the Campbell/Clark Liberals or the Harper Conservatives. We cause PAIN to our Seniors, who can least afford to pay for home support, simply because the dollar is more important than insuring these old people get the proper care, and attention.
