You can't help people with tax cuts, if they simply don't earn any income to qualify. Giving me a tax credit, doesn't help if I have to stay at home, earn nothing, simply to care for my 93 year old mother. It makes no difference what amount the credit is. Caregiving isn't just about lost income either, but the added costs. Those need to be addressed, but again, if you don't earn anything, what good is a stupid tax credit?

Like no job, and they'll let me build a suite in a home I rent. I don't think so Jack, nor does it actually help me either. Caregiving is twenty fours a day, every day so how about some help in paying for her pills, for the other essentials like hydro, like rubber gloves, like diapers? That would help, as would letting me earn some damn money, but family members can't get paid for looking after their parents. How about some real help, not fancy sound bites Mr Layton.

Harpernomics is about giving tax cuts to those who can afford to spend the cash, but not about giving people living on the edge a break, even when it is to care for elderly parents. Things are a bit out of whack, when we care more for renovating our home, for adding to its value, while ignoring the need to inform people about health risks, or to give them break, in taking care of an old person.

Public money is spent to promote the image of a government, rather than to tell me how to keep my 92 year old mother safe from contracting the swine flu. People need to be first, in health care, not profits.
